The Central Michigan family has lost a prominent member and school record holder.

The university announced that Titus Davis, all-time leading receiver for the Chippewas, passed away Wednesday evening. He was just 27-years-old.

According to the release, Davis was dealing with renal medullary carcinoma, a rare form of kidney disease.

Davis played at Central Michigan from 2011-14, finishing with 204 catches for 3,700 receiving yards and 37 touchdowns. He holds the school’s all-time marks for receiving yardage and touchdowns and is fourth all-time in catches.

Dan Enos, who spent time at Michigan and Michigan State and was head coach at CMU during Davis’ career, reacted to the news:

“I’m heartbroken by the loss of Titus, who was first and foremost an outstanding person,” said Enos. “On the field, he was a phenomenal athlete and competitor. He was also a great friend and teammate to many.

“From the first moments we started recruiting him, we at CMU football knew he was something incredibly special. He was a joy to coach and to be around. My deepest sympathies are extended to his family during this difficult time.”

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Davis family.
