Ex-Illinois head coach Bill Cubit sends special message to Illini seniors

Bill Cubit wasn’t the head coach at Illinois for very long, but he was with the program for three years and developed relationships with some of the players that still remain in Champaign.
On Wednesday afternoon, Cubit sent out a special message for his former players, the seniors in particular. He tweeted out that the seniors, who will be playing in their final road game in the blue and orange, should take it all in and appreciate the moment.
To the seniors I was blessed to coach @IlliniFootball, this being your last away game, take it all in & appreciate it. Best wishes in the future & thank you for allowing me & Nancy to be part of your lives. Love all you guys.

Cubit served as the head coach of the Illini in 2015, being pushed into the role after Illinois fired Tim Beckman for alleged player mistreatment. His team finished the season 5-7 and 2-6 in B1G play.
He was originally brought to Illinois as the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach in 2013. He served in that role for two seasons until being named the head coach.
Cubit was fired early in 2016 when Josh Whitman became the athletic director. Shortly after, Lovie Smith was named the head coach.
