Depth at the quarterback position has been a concern for Ohio State this offseason, but Ryan Day has countered those low numbers by adding a few key players over the weekend.

On Saturday, former Kentucky quarterback Gunnar Hoak announced via Twitter that he would be headed to Columbus to complete his academic and athletic career. He’s a native of Dublin, Ohio, so it will be a bit of a homecoming for the former Wildcat.

“I would like to formally announce that I am excited to accept an offer to continue my football and academic careers at THE Ohio State University,” Hoak wrote on Twitter.

Hoak provides the Buckeyes with some much-needed depth. While Ohio State was able to bring in former five-star gunslinger Justin Fields, it also saw Tate Martell and Matthew Baldwin transfer, leaving the team with just two scholarship quarterbacks — Chris Chugunov being the other.

Along with Hoak, Ohio State added 2019 quarterback prospect JP Andrade to the roster, who will be a preferred walk-on this fall.

Hoak played in five games at Kentucky last season, completing 13-of-26 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns. When he arrives in Columbus, he will likely be penciled into the No. 2 spot on the depth chart.

Hoak will be a graduate transfer and will be immediately eligible for the 2019 season. He has two years remaining in his college career.
