Former Michigan cornerback Nate Johnson has reportedly pleaded guilty to a charge of assault and battery.
On Wednesday, MLive.com reported that Johnson — who was arrested in late September — pleaded guilty to assaulted a woman he was dating. He was initially charged with domestic violence but the charge was reclassified as assault and battery as part of a plea deal.
“I had a physical altercation with (a female) and it just got away from me,” Johnson said in court. “We got into a fight.”
Johnson was initially arrested on Sept. 30 and was suspended from all team activities immediately after the incident. He was later dismissed from the team.
In 2016, Johnson was a member of Michigan’s wide receiver corps, playing in three games for the maize and blue. Prior to the start of the 2017 season, Johnson transition to cornerback but did not set foot on the field this year.
Back in September, the University of Michigan sent out a report saying Johnson had been suspended from all team activities without providing any further explanation on the matter.
