The former Wolverine QB beat out former five-star prospect Harrison Bailey and former Virginia Tech starter Hendron Hooker for the top spot on the depth chart.
Milton is a former four-star prospect out of Orlando, Florida and was in the same situation last season at Michigan, but wasn’t able to keep the starting spot. He managed to throw for over 1,000 yards, but also had four interceptions to match his four touchdowns. Benched after a few games, he was also dealing with injury issues.
After announcing his transfer to Tennessee in June, Milton was the only quarterback on Tennessee’s roster that didn’t go through spring practice. Despite the lesser amount of time, his impression on the coaching staff resulted in his receiving the not for the starting job.
Tennessee will open at home against Bowling Green on Thursday, Sept. 2, with a 7:00 PM kickoff.
