A former Michigan State football player has pleaded guilty to raping a woman in 2017 during an incident that occurred off campus, according to a report.
On Wednesday, Auston Robertson pleaded guilty to one count of assault with intent to commit criminal sexual penetration, according to the Lansing State Journal. He told an Ingham County Circuit Court judge that he assaulted a female student in her apartment.
According to the report, Robertson could face up to 43 months in prison. He will go before a judge for sentencing on Dec. 4.
Robertson would also have to register as a sex offender.
In April 2017, Robertson was accused of following a woman into her apartment and forcing himself on her. The woman testified that she told her boyfriend of the incident, who was a teammate of Robertson.
Michigan State dismissed Robertson from the team in 2017.
Robertson has had multiple run-ins with law enforcement, according to the Lansing State Journal. In 2016, he was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge that stemmed from a high school incident. Those charges were cleared after completing a diversionary program.
In April 2018, Robertson was again arrested in connection with an armed robbery that occurred in Garden City, Kansas.
Robertson was a member of Michigan State’s 2016 recruiting class.
