Ex-Oklahoma QB Caleb Williams makes long-awaited transfer decision

Caleb Williams has finally made a decision.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Tuesday that Williams, the former starter at Oklahoma and freshman sensation, will be transferring to USC. He will reconnect with former Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley, who agreed to become the next leader of the Trojans following the 2021 season.
Because of the ties to Riley, USC was always considered the favorite to land the former 5-star prospect. However, Williams was also reportedly looking into LSU and Wisconsin as potential destinations.
Williams started the 2021 season as Oklahoma’s backup behind Spencer Rattler. After Rattler’s struggles early in the season, the freshman came in and earned the starting job with outstanding play on the field.
Williams popped onto the spotlight during Oklahoma’s thrilling 55-48 win over rival Texas. After trailing the Longhorns 28-7 in the opening quarter, Riley swapped Rattler out and subbed in Williams. The freshman then engineered a major comeback to lead OU to a win.
Williams threw for 212 yards and 2 touchdowns while completing 16-of-25 pass attempts. He also rushed for 88 yards and a score on just 4 carries.
For the season, Williams amassed 1,912 yards through the air and had 21 touchdown throws with just 4 picks. He rushed for 442 yards and 6 touchdowns on 79 carries.
USC hired Riley to turn the program back into a national contender. This seems like a really big step in the right direction for the Trojans.
