A recent video posted by the IU Football Twitter account gives a good indication of what to expect from Hoosiers running back Stephen Carr. The run displays Carr’s speed, power and ability to break tackles during a scrimmage.

Indiana coach Tom Allen had high praise for the USC transfer following Saturday’s scrimmage:

“It’s pretty obvious,” Allen said, according to Kevin Brockway with the Herald Bulletin. “He’s a good back, and the thing about him is he does a lot of things well. He obviously can run the football, but he can pass pro(tect), and he has really good hands and just understands football, has played a lot of football, and some guys have that knack to them. He did some good things for sure.”

Carr is a former 5-star recruit who opted to spend his final season of eligibility in Bloomington after four seasons at USC. A recently released depth chart had Carr listed at No. 3 despite his inclusion on the Doak Walker Award Watch List, and got some attention.

Given the early release of the chart, the designation seemed to be more about having Carr earn his way up to the top, rather than just granting the new guy in camp the top spot.

After Sampson James entered the transfer portal last week, Carr is left with sophomore Tim Baldwin and junior David Ellis as primary competition for the starting job when the Hoosiers head to Iowa for the season opener on Sept. 4.
