Matt Nagy says that Andy Dalton is currently the starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears, but Justin Fields may not need much time to take over in the Windy City. If there’s one advantage for the former Buckeye, is that he’s very familiar with the offensive scheme.
Speaking with reporters last week, Fields said the offensive approach in Chicago is similar to the one at Ohio State. After thriving in the Buckeyes’ scheme the past two seasons, that should be a really good thing for Nagy and the Bears.
“I would say it’s probably the same,” Fields told reporters, according to 247Sports. “I think the only different thing about our offense is that at Ohio State we did signals from the sideline. So actually getting in a huddle and calling the play out is the only different thing. Everything else is pretty much the same when it comes to concepts and stuff like that.
“I just think it’s the terminology that NFL teams use, that we use, just getting used to that, just getting used to the play calls. And of course the players and stuff like that. I just think that’s gonna come along with time and I’ll get used to it as time flies by.”
The Bears traded up to the No. 11 spot during the NFL Draft to grab Fields, a move that many consider to be the steal of the draft. Fields has incredibly-high potential and is hopeful to be the next franchise quarterback in Chicago.
While Nagy said recently that Dalton is still QB1 for the Bears, Fields should have a good shot to win the starting job sometime in the 2021 season.
