FCS program mourns sudden passing of offensive line coach

John Peacock, the offensive line coach at Western Carolina, has died at the age of 32. The school released a statement on his passing on Friday night.
In the release, Western Carolina stated that Peacock’s death was sudden and unexpected. No other details were provided in the statement.
“Catamount Nation, we are sad to share the news of the sudden and unexpected death of John Peacock, offensive line coach of Catamount Football, at his home on Wednesday,” the statement from WCU read. “We in Catamount Athletics and the entire Catamount Nation mourn the passing of Coach Peacock, who arrived at WCU in spring 2021.
“Known by his colleagues and student-athletes as a selfless, hard worker who was always upbeat and constantly humming or singing, Coach peacock will be sorely missed. Catamount Athletics will host a moment of silence in his honor during the first football game of the season at E.J. Whitmire Stadium on September 4. And the University will lower the WCU flag in his honor on the day of his memorial service.”
Peacock attended Valdosta State University and returned to his alma mater in 2016, coaching tight ends and fullbacks through 2018. That was his first job as a coach at the college level.
Following his time at Valdosta State, Peacock also spent time at South Florida as a graduate assistant.
