Even with fall camp approaching, Purdue is continuing to add depth to its defense through the transfer portal.

Monday, the Boilermakers received a commitment from former Alabama A&M defensive lineman Marcus Cushnie. The former FCS lineman picked Purdue over Florida State and will bring two years of eligibility to West Lafayette.

Cushnie made his announcement with a post on Twitter. He becomes the fourth defensive lineman to transfer to Purdue this offseason, along with Joe Anderson (South Carolina), Damarjhe Lewis (Indiana) and PrinceJames Boyd (junior college).

Cushnie was dominant along the defensive line at Alabama A&M during the spring 2021 season. He was credited with 7 sacks in 4 games and also had 7.5 tackles for loss and a pair of quarterback hurries.

Before moving to defensive line, Cushnie played linebacker for Alabama A&M. His versatility will be an asset for a Boilermakers defense that has struggled the last three seasons. Last year, Purdue ended the year with a 2-4 record, its second-straight losing season.

Purdue has added seven defensive players via the transfer portal during the offseason.

The Boilers are scheduled to open the 2021 season with a home game against Oregon State on Saturday, Sept. 4. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET and the contest will air on FS1.
