Tuesday night’s matchup between No. 24 Maryland and No. 21 Iowa provided plenty of excitement. And the back-and-forth finish resulted in some mixed feelings following the hard-fought battle.
Bruno Fernando was the hero of Tuesday night’s bout, tipping in a game-winning bucket with just over :07 left to play. Iowa had a chance to win the game with a shot of their own, but a three-point attempt from Jordan Bohannon and a put-back attempt from Isaiah Moss were both off the mark.
Maryland hung on for a 66-65 victory.
After the game, though, Bohannon made it pretty clear that he thought he was fouled as he was on his way up for his final shot. And that’s led to a pretty good back and forth between he and Terrapins’ guard Anthony Cowan, who disputes he ever touched the Iowa star.
Here’s what Bohannon told Chad Leistikow following the game:
Jordan Bohannon on his last shot …
“It felt good even though I got fouled on the way up.”
It was a line drive.
“There’s not much trajectory I can get on the ball if he pulls my arm down.”
Where did he get you?
“On my forearm. I guess that’s part of the ball, though.”

Cowan didn’t agree with Bohannon’s assessment of how the final play unfolded. He says he got “all ball” on the final shot attempt.
Here’s what Cowan told Emily Giambalvo of The Washington Post:
Anthony Cowan: "I had all ball. If we want to go back to the film, we can do that. I had all ball. I knew I wasn't going to foul it." https://t.co/hr0HM3HZIT

The dispute didn’t end there. Bohannon found the tweet and replied with a “Fake News!” post of his own.

Clearly, there’s a difference in opinion on how the final play ended. But give credit to Cowan and Bohannon for voicing their opinions. Too often, players are muzzled and can’t really speak their mind.
Bohannon and Cowan had no trouble saying how they felt the game ended.
Here’s a look at Fernando’s tip-in basket, along with Iowa’s final shots. You be the judge:
