‘Fire Kerry Coombs:’ Ohio State fans irate with defensive coordinator after Oregon loss

Ohio State defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs had a rough day at the office on Saturday.

Oregon defeated the Buckeyes 35-28 and largely dominated Ohio State’s defense all game long. That was especially true on the ground, as the Ducks rushed for 269 yards and 7.1 yards per attempt.

Oregon repeatedly was able to pick up chunks of yardage — and points — by running at the left side of Ohio State’s defense. The Ducks scored three touchdowns from very similar plays by simply running left.

Coombs is receiving a lot of the blame from Buckeyes fans, who were expecting a win in Columbus on Saturday. Oregon finished the game with more than 500 total yards.

Coombs is in his second season of his second stint with Ohio State. He left Columbus after the 2017 season to take a job with the Tennessee Titans. He returned for the 2020 campaign, but his second stint hasn’t been nearly as successful.
