The results are in, and they’re still the same. Ohio State is picking up exactly where it left off — at No. 1.
The Associated Press tabbed the Buckeyes as the nation’s best team in its first poll of the season. OSU was also the first team to ever receive a unanimous preseason No. 1 from the AP, earning all 61 No. 1 votes. The Buckeyes continued their unanimous run of preseason No. 1’s after returning 15 starters from last year’s national championship group.
Michigan State also cracked the top five with the likes of preseason All-Americans Jack Allen and Shilique Calhoun back in East Lansing. The Spartans were the only team in college football to finish in the top five for the second straight year. The top-five preseason ranking was Sparty’s first since 1967.
Wisconsin was the Big Ten’s other selection, coming in at No. 20. Penn State received 20 votes while Nebraska got six and Michigan had two.
