Two schools in the Pac-12 are the first in the Power 5 to require a COVID-19 vaccination or proof of a negative test to attend events this fall, including college football games.
Oregon and Oregon State announced on Friday that individuals over the age of 12 must be fully vaccinated or show proof of a negative test in order to attend football games. The test must come within three days of the event.
In the statement released, Oregon said the decision was made with public health authorities and “peer institutions in the state.”
Tulane was the first FBS school to implement that kind of policy for the upcoming college football season, making the call earlier this month. That came after the city of New Orleans implemented a similar mandate for attendance at Saints games.
Oregon opens the 2021 season at home against Fresno State on Saturday, Sept. 4. The following week, the Ducks travel to Columbus to play Ohio State in a highly-anticipated nonconference matchup.
Oregon State starts the year with a trip to West Lafayette to play Purdue on Sept. 4. The first home game for the Beavers comes the following weekend, hosting Hawai’i.
