P.J. Fleck’s first game as the Minnesota Golden Gophers’ head coach was a rough one. However, Minnesota was still able to squeak out a 17-7 victory.

After watching film of the game, Fleck noticed that the Golden Gophers need to improve this season or it will be a long one in Minneapolis.

“It wasn’t that we were really disappointed, but it was we all know we did not even come close to playing our best football,” Fleck said on Monday to the Pioneer Press. “When you can not play your best football and win a game like that, OK. Not that you get away with it, but you are almost say, ‘OK, if we continue to do that, a lot of teams are going to beat us.’ ”

Fleck and the Golden Gophers will try to implement their improvements against Oregon State on Saturday night in Corvallis, Ore.
