Michigan and Florida will eventually play a football game. In the meantime, though, the subtle back-and-forth between the programs continues to live on.
At Monday’s press conference, Florida head coach Jim McElwain fired a shot at Jim Harbaugh and his out-of-the-box antics that seem to capture national attention on a regular basis.
“Each guy’s his own. He obviously felt they needed to do some things to become relevant, that was his choice,” McElwain said. “It was probably not something I’d do.”
Whether or not that was meant to be a jab at Harbaugh and Michigan is unclear, but it certainly caught plenty of eyes on social media.
In 2015, when Harbaugh took over the program, Michigan was coming off a 5-7 season and was spiraling out of the national spotlight quickly. So the former UM quarterback might have felt it necessary to have a more creative approach to recruiting to entice high school prospects to head to Ann Arbor.
The question about Harbaugh stemmed from Michigan’s refusal to provide an updated roster, something that won’t be made available until Aug. 30, according to the head coach.
Despite the most recent shot by McElwain, Harbaugh says he has no problem with the Gators’ head coach.
“I have no problem with Jim,” Harbaugh said on his weekly radio show. “We’re coaching our ball teams, that’s all we’re doing right now. Is there something I’m missing right now?”
In just a few days, the two teams will finally square off and all of this McElwain-Harbaugh banter will be settled on the field.
