These comments certainly have to sting for Purdue fans, even if the coach was not meaning to throw shade on the Boilermakers.

Purdue is off to a disappointing start this season after falling to 0-2. The Boilermakers dropped the season opener against Northwestern in a tight battle before taking on Eastern Michigan. What was expected to be a smooth victory turning into a surprising struggle as the Eagles came ready to play.

In the end, EMU marched down the field in the final moments of the game and kicked a game-winning field goal. The win was a big one for EMU’s program, but head coach Chris Creighton thinks a bigger challenge may await this weekend when the Eagles take on Buffalo.

Ryan Zuke with MLive.com shared Creighton’s comments:

“I don’t mean any disrespect, but this is what I honestly believe,” Creighton said, “it is going to be more of a difficult challenge for us this week than last week was.”

He went on to explain that the added factor of a conference game could make earning a win even tougher against Buffalo:

“I don’t think Purdue was staying up at night worried about Eastern Michigan coming into their place. Not that Buffalo is worried, don’t get me wrong, but at the same time, they are not going to take a conference game lightly. To do what they want to do (win a conference title), this is a big deal for them, and for us to do what we want to do, this is a big deal for us.”
