A former Ohio State defensive back and 5-star recruit is visiting Nebraska and is considering the school as a potential landing spot after entering his name into the NCAA transfer portal.

Tyreke Johnson is on Nebraska’s campus in Lincoln Thursday as he considers his options. Per the Omaha World-Herald, Johnson reportedly strongly considering playing for the Huskers after spending three seasons with the Buckeyes.

Johnson entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal in May. Over the course of three seasons in Columbus, he tallied 8 tackles and was part of three B1G title-winning squads.

Nebraska’s defense returns a majority of its starting production from the 2020 season, but adding another skilled piece to the secondary would only build quality depth for a program that has struggled under head coach Scott Frost.

Defense is expected to be the strength of Nebraska’s team entering the 2021 season. Last fall, the Huskers finished with a 3-5 record, bringing the team’s overall record to 12-20 in three seasons under Frost.
