Former B1G commit, top 50 offensive tackle, announces pledge to ACC program

A former B1G commit who de-committed just days ago has found a new home, and it’s in the ACC.
Ta’Khyian Whitset, an offensive tackle from the 2025 recruiting class, pledged to Purdue in April. But that commitment lasted about 6 months before he re-opened his recruitment.
That de-commitment came not long after NC State extended an offer. Whitset then took an official visit to the program the weekend of its home game against Northern Illinois. That led to him backing off of his pledge to Purdue on Wednesday; on Saturday, he committed to the Wolfpack.

Outside of NC State and Purdue, Whitset, considered the No. 48 offensive tackle recruit in the country, holds offers from Arkansas State, Ball State, East Carolina, Liberty, Toledo, UAB, Vanderbilt, and Western Kentucky, among others.
He is the 18th recruit of the 2025 class for Dave Doeren and his program. He’s also the fourth offensive lineman, joining Louisville’s Isaac Sowells Jr., Wilmington, N.C.’s Michael Gibbs, and Ohio’s Kage Payne.
Below, you can take a look at some of Whitset’s highlights from Hudl:
It’s the latest bit of bad news for a Purdue program that has had a rough go of it in 2024. Ryan Walters’ team is just 1-4 on the season and winless in the B1G ahead of their game against No. 23 Illinois.
On Sept. 30, offensive coordinator Graham Harrell was fired. The former Texas Tech quarterback was one of Walters’ initial hires when he took the head coaching job in West Lafayette in 2023.
