Former four-star OL Gabe Megginson transferring from Illinois

Former four-star offensive lineman Gabe Megginson has opted to transfer from Illinois.

Monday night, Megginson made an announcement on Twitter, stating he will look to pursue other options to continue is academic and athletic career.

“I feel that I made the best decision in coming to the University of Illinois, and now at this point in my life, I have to do what is best for me in leaving the University of Illinois,” Megginson said.

A former four-star prospect, Megginson had several big-time offers, including Ohio State, Penn State, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Ultimately, the Jacksonville, Illinois native chose his home school. And while he some success in his first season — starting seven games as a redshirt freshman in 2016 — his playing time was trimmed this fall. In the 2017 season, Megginson started just two games for the Illini.

Megginson will have to sit out one season should he transfer to another FBS program. He did not name any potential landing spots.
