Offensive lineman Phifer Griffin actually left the Illinois football program after the conclusion of spring practice, but it took some time to enter the portal. Now, he’s exploring his options.
Illini Inquirer’s Jeremy Werner reported on Wednesday that Griffin has officially entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal. He was one of two players from the Illinois football team to leave the program after spring ball ended, along with fellow offensive lineman Kevin Tyler.

Griffin was a redshirt freshman and did not play for the Illini during the 2020 season. The team finished with a 2-6 record.
Under the NCAA’s new guidelines, Griffin will be immediately eligible at his next destination. He will also be able to use all four years of eligibility whenever he finds a new school.
