Former Illinois running back Kenyon Sims has found his next program.

Sims will be transferring to San Jose State after three years with the Illini. He announced that decision on Friday:

Sims played sparingly during this career at Illinois. He leaves with 56 career yards on 16 carries and did not score a touchdown.

He was a member of Illinois’ 2018 recruiting class. He was a 3-star prospect and the No. 85 running back in the country for that cycle, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

Sims is originally from San Diego, Calif., so transferring back to the west coast (potentially for more playing time) makes sense.

San Jose State is coming off one of its best seasons in school history. The Spartans went 7-1 and were one of the nation’s best teams in the Group of 5 last season. They finished the year ranked in the AP Poll for just the second time in school history.
