Former Indiana basketball star Eric Anderson dies at 48

Former Indiana basketball star and NBA player Eric Anderson has died at the age of 48, according to multiple reports.

Matt Rodewald of FOX 10 reported the news of Anderson’s death, saying the family confirmed his passing. He was a native of Chicago, Illinois.

Anderson played for the Hoosiers from 1988-1992, helping lead the Hoosiers to a Final Four appearance in his senior season. Indiana lost to Duke in the semifinal round of the NCAA tournament. The Blue Devils would go on to win the national championship.

During his career with Indiana, Anderson earned several individual awards. He was named the 1989 B1G Freshman of the Year. He was an All-B1G selection in 1991 and was named the 1992 West Regional Most Valuable Player.

Prior to attending Indiana, Anderson was a Mr. Basketball for the state of Illinois. He was also a McDonald’s All-American out of high school.

Anderson finished his career with the Hoosiers with 1,715 points and 825 rebounds. He had a two-year NBA career, playing with the New York Knicks from 1992-1994.

The cause of death is unknown at this time.
