The San Francisco 49ers recently traded for star RB Christian McCaffrey from the Carolina Panthers, but that turned out to be bad news for former Indiana RB Tevin Coleman, as the team waived him on Tuesday.

All NFL teams must only carry 53 players on a roster during the season.

Coleman was drafted in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft and was the 73rd overall pick by the Atlanta Falcons. The star RB from Indiana spent four seasons with the Falcons, where he amassed 2,380 yards, 18 rushing touchdowns and 11 receiving.

He then spent three years with the Niners running for 623 yards, 7 rushing touchdowns and 2 receiving touchdowns. Last season he was on the New York Jets running for a mere 356 yards.

This season for the Niners, he only carried the ball 12 times for 26 yards, a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown before being let go.

The journeyman running back will hope to be picked up off waivers within the next 24 hours or become a free agent.

The Niners are on the road this weekend to take on divisional rival the Los Angeles Rams at 4:25 ET on FOX.
