He’s on the NBA stat sheet.
Former Iowa star Luka Garza made his debut with the Detroit Pistons this week and in the Pistons’ loss Saturday to the Chicago Bulls, the ex-Hawkeyes notched his first career point in the professional ranks.
Garza’s point came at the free throw line after taking a charge. He ended the night with 3 points, 2 rebounds and an assist. The Pistons fell to the Bulls 97-82.
#Hawkeyes #DetroitUp, Thank you for the questions. Indeed, I am thankful that Luka’s 1st point came from the sacrifice of his body for the Team, & grateful he didn’t lose a tooth or require stitches. Thank you @NikolaVucevic for Luka’s 1st point.🇧🇦❤️🦚 pic.twitter.com/A6Utdch0Zj

Last year with the Hawkeyes, Garza was a national player of the year, and he was a consensus first-team All-American and twice named Big Ten Player of the Year, which was a first for an Iowa basketball player.
Garza averaged 24 points per game and 8.7 rebounds in his senior year. He started out playing for the Pistons G-League team, the Motor City Cruise, and was so impressive that the Pistons signed him to a contract in September.
Garza could make a huge impact on this Pistons team who is looking to make a run in the East behind NBA champs the Milwaukee Bucks, so far, however, the Pistons have gotten off to a slow start with an 0-2 record.
