Former Joe Tiller assistant joining Jeff Brohm’s defensive staff at Purdue

After another rough defensive campaign in 2020 that saw Purdue finish near the bottom of the Big Ten in pass defense, and toward the middle-bottom every else, the Boilermakers are once again rebuilding their defensive coaching staff.
According to a report at Purdue athletic’s site Gold and Black the Boilers are bringing back Mark Hagen to coach the defensive line in West Lafayette. Hagen coached linebackers and tackles eleven years under head coach Joe Tiller, the last consistently successful Purdue head man, who retired in 2008.
Hagen is replacing Terrance Jamison after Jamison moved on following the firing of first-year defensive coordinator Bob Diaco at the end of Purdue’s 2-4 2020 season. Jamison stayed in conference though, heading south-west to Illinois to coach defensive lines under new Illini coach Bret Bielema.
Hagen was coaching in Austin under Texas head man Tom Herman until Herman was fired following the 2020 season. The Boilers still are missing several defensive posts, including defensive coordinator, linebackers coach, and cornerbacks coach, but the defensive line they have locked down.
