Former Maryland star and NFL veteran Frank Wycheck has passed away over the weekend. The former Terrapin and 11-year tight end in the NFL was 52 years old at the time of his passing.

According to Tennessee Titans writer Jim Wyatt, Wycheck’s family confirmed his passing in a statement. Indications are that Wycheck fell inside his Chattanooga home and hit his head on Saturday morning. Wycheck was found unresponsive Saturday afternoon.

Maryland football expressed its condolences for Wycheck on social media:

While at Maryland, Wycheck saw action as a TE and RB with the Terps. During the 1990 season, he finished with 58 catches for 509 yards and a touchdown. During the 1992 campaign, he finished with over 600 yards of offense while rushing for 369 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Wycheck would be selected in the 6th round of the 1993 NFL Draft. He spent 1995-2003 as a member of the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans and recorded nearly 5,000 receiving yards with 27 touchdowns for the organization. He was voted a 3-time Pro Bowler.
