Former Michigan defender signed by Chicago Bears

Former Michigan defensive end Taco Charlton is on the move again.

Charlton was officially signed to the Chicago Bears active roster off the New Orleans Saints practice squad. In a corresponding move, the Bears released linebacker A.J. Klein.

A 2017 1st-round pick, Charlton has bounced around the NFL, spending time with the Dallas Cowboys (2017-19), Miami Dolphins (2019), Kansas City Chiefs (2020), and Pittsburgh Steelers (2021). He’s appeared in 55 NFL games with 13 starts in five seasons, recording 92 tackles, 11.5 sacks, 12 tackles-for-loss, and 4 forced fumbles.

A standout out for the Wolverines, Charlton started 3 seasons in Ann Arbor before electing to go pro. His best season came in 2016 when he registered 40 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, and 10 sacks. In 4 seasons, he recorded 91 total tackles, 28 tackles for loss, and 19 sacks.

Charlton has experience working in Bears head coach Matt Eberflus’ defensive front during his time with the Cowboys. He also spent time with Chicago general manager Ryan Poles, who served as the Chiefs’ assistant director of player personnel during Charlton’s time on Kansas City’s roster.

The Bears will travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons on Sunday at 1 p.m.
