Former Michigan guard signs 10-day contract with NBA’s Thunder

Former Michigan guard Zavier Simpson has signed a 10-day contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The team announced the move on Tuesday.

Simpson has spent the year with the Oklahoma City Blue in the G-League. He’s appeared in 47 games and made 32 starts this season and is averaging 12.7 points, 6.2 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game.

This is Simpson’s second season with the Blue.

Simpson was a four-year player at Michigan, suiting up for the Wolverines from 2016-20. He played for both John Beilein and Juwan Howard and appeared in 146 career games with 96 start.

Over the course of his four-year career in Ann Arbor, Simpson averaged 7.3 points, 4.6 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game. His most productive year came in his final season with the Wolverines, averaging 12.9 points and 7.9 assists per contest.

Simpson was not selected in the 2020 NBA Draft but has carved out a significant role in the G-League over the past two years.

Oklahoma City is 23-55 this season with four games remaining. The Thunder close the year with games against Portland, Utah and both the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers.
