Former Michigan head coach Gary Moeller passes away at age 81

Former Michigan head coach Gary Moeller has passed away at the age of 81, Michigan football announced Monday.

Moeller coached the Wolverines from 1990-1994, winning 5 bowl games and at least 8 games each season. Moeller’s Michigan squads cracked the top 5 every year he was head coach. he also won 3 B1G titles and was named Coach of the Year twice.

Moeller spent 23 years as part of the Wolverines program, first as an assistant then head coach following Bo Schembechler’s departure to the MLB as president of the Detroit Tigers.

Gary Moeller was a great family man, great friend, great coach and a man of integrity and high character,” former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr said via Michigan Football. “I admired him, I respected him and I loved him.”

Moeller is survived by his wife, Ann, 3 daughters, Susan, Amy and Molly, and son, Andy, a former linebacker and captain for the Wolverines.
