Former Michigan kicker Jay Feely offers words of encouragement to retired Wolverines commit

A Michigan football commit was forced to do one of the most difficult things in his young life. Three-star quarterback and Wolverines pledge JD Johnson was forced to medically retire from football due to a heart condition.
Johnson, a member of the 2020 recruiting class, made his announcement public via Twitter on Wednesday. While the news was difficult to share, Johnson did have some good news to spread as well, saying Jim Harbaugh plans to honor his scholarship and will allow Johnson to join the team as a staff member.
Former Michigan kicker Jay Feely also offered some encouraging words to Johnson after reading of the news.
“JD[,] My roommate at Michigan was a QB named Scot Loeffler. He destroyed his should his Fr yr & was never able to play again. He became a player/coach. Today he is [Head Coach Scot Leffler] at Bowling Green. Your future lies in front of you. Go Blue!” Feely wrote on Twitter.

That’s a tremendous message from the former Michigan and NFL kicker to Johnson. Just because the quarterback won’t be able to step on the field this year doesn’t mean football will be out of his life.
It’s another great message in light of an awful situation.
