Former Michigan running back and assistant coach Tyrone Wheatley is expected to return to the NFL after spending the last three years as the head coach at Morgan State. Pro Football Focus reported the news.

Per the report, Wheatley is expected to join the Denver Broncos staff as the running backs coach. This will be his third stop in the NFL, previously working with the Buffalo Bills (2013-14) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2017-18).

The former Michigan running back and first-round pick spent time on Jim Harbaugh’s staff in Ann Arbor. From 2015-16, Wheatley worked as the Wolverines’ running backs coach.

Wheatley has also had stops at Ohio Northern, Eastern Michigan and Syracuse.

Wheatley took over at Morgan State for the 2019 season. Even though he’s been the leader of the program for three years, the Bears have played just two seasons because of the COVID-19 pandemic that impacted the 2020 season.
