Former Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson has inked a long-term extension with the Detroit Lions that will fetch him a historic amount of guaranteed money.
According to multiple reports, Hutchinson and the Lions agreed to a 4-year contract extension on Wednesday. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the deal is worth $180 million with $141 million guaranteed.
With the extension, Hutchinson will sign the richest deal in terms of guaranteed money by any non-quarterback in NFL history, passing the $136 million guaranteed to Green Bay Packers edge Micah Parsons.
By average annual salary, Hutchinson’s deal will pay him $45 million a year. That will make him the second-highest-paid defensive end in the NFL, behind Parsons ($46.5 million).
Hutchinson was the No. 2 overall pick for the Lions in the 2022 NFL Draft. In his first 46 appearances for the organization, Hutchinson has 138 tackles, 36 tackles for loss, 34.5 sacks, 8 forced fumbles, and 4 interceptions.
Hutchinson was a Pro Bowler in 2023 when he had a career-high 11.5 sacks. This season, he has bounced back from a fractured tibia that limited him to 5 games in 2024 and produced elite numbers once again. Hutchinson has 6 sacks, 29 quarterback pressures, and 4 forced fumbles in 7 games.
