A former Michigan star doesn’t appear to be very happy with the Wolverines’ movement on the recruiting trail recently, and he had a message for head coach Jim Harbaugh — at least that’s how it appears.

Shortly after four-star defensive back and Detroit native Jaylen Reed committed to Penn State earlier this week, former Michigan safety Jourdan Lewis was frustrated with the Wolverines missing another talented in-state prospect. He fired off a tweet not long after Reed’s announcement.

“Recruit the State of Michigan better,” Lewis wrote.

Lewis did not include any names or tag anyone in the social media post, but it appears to be a pretty clear message to Harbaugh and the rest of the Michigan coaching staff. It’s a little more personal for Lewis, who is also a Detroit native.

Reed was ranked as one of the top 10 players from Michigan. Currently, the Wolverines have six prospects committed in the 2021 recruiting class, but only two of them are in-state recruits.

Lewis was at Michigan from 2013-15, playing under Harbaugh for two seasons (2015-16). He was recruited by former Wolverines head coach Brady Hoke, who was fired following the 2014 season.

In four years at Michigan, Lewis totaled 135 tackles, broke up 37 passes, had 8.5 tackles for loss and collected six interceptions. He was a third-round selection in the 2017 NFL Draft, picked by the Dallas Cowboys.
