Mark Montgomery is out at Northern Illinois, the former Michigan State player and assistant being let go on Sunday morning after a dismal start to the season for the Huskies.

NIU is currently 1-7. Since a win over Chicago State on Dec. 18, the Huskies have been blown at Toledo and then home to Bowling Green.  This was his ninth season in the MAC with NIU, where he had just a single postseason appearance during that stretch (the Vegas 16 tournament).

Associate head coach Lamar Chapman is taking over for Montgomery on an interim basis. Chapman is in his fourth season with the program after spending the previous nine seasons as an assistant at Stony Brook.

Montgomery played four years under at Michigan State, his final being the 1991-92 season. During that time, he amassed 126 appearances and 43 starts during that time. He went on to play in Europe before spending several seasons as an assistant at Michigan State.

Beginning in 2002 through 2011, he was an assistant under Tom Izzo at his alma mater.
