Former Michigan State QB Drew Stanton elevated to Buccaneers’ active roster for Super Bowl

Former Michigan State QB Drew Stanton is on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers roster for the Super Bowl on Sunday night.
Stanton, who signed with the Bucs on Christmas, has spent his time in Tampa Bay on the practice squad.
Missed this yesterday but the Bucs elevated former MSU QB Drew Stanton from the practice squad to the active roster for the Super Bowl. Pretty cool for a guy that was out of football until signing with the Bucs on Christmas.

Stanton hasn’t thrown an NFL pass since 2017 when he was with the Arizona Cardinals. He’s never attempted a postseason pass.
It’s unclear where Stanton is on the depth chart, but the Buccaneers will have three other active quarterbacks for this game, per the team’s website: Tom Brady, Blaine Gabbert and Ryan Griffin.
Stanton’s inclusion brings the Big Ten’s total number of players in the Super Bowl to 21, the second most of any conference.
Stanton was a 2nd round pick by the Detroit Lions in the 2007 NFL Draft. He’s played in 38 games since being drafted, completing 52.4 percent of his passes for 4,059 yards, 20 touchdowns and 24 interceptions. His career record as a starter is 11-6.
During his time with the Arizona Cardinals, he overlapped with current Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians. Clearly Stanton is someone who Arians trusts.
