Former Minnesota linebacker Thomas Barber is back in Minneapolis, this time as a member of the Golden Gophers staff. Andy Greder of the Pioneer Press reported the news on Tuesday.

Barber has been added to the team’s coaching staff as a defensive graduate assistant. He joins Christian Pawola, Angel Matute and Nick Faus as fellow graduate assistants.

Barber was a linebacker for the Golden Gophers from 2016-19 and was a member of the squad that finished 11-2 and earned an Outback Bowl victory over Auburn.

During his career at Minnesota, Barber piled up 274 stops, 19.5 tackles for loss, 7 fumble recoveries, 4 forced fumbles, 3.5 sacks and 2 interceptions.

Before returning to Minnesota, Barber spent one year as an assistant linebackers coach at Augsburg University in 2021. This will be his second season working with a football program in a coaching capacity.

Minnesota ended the 2021 season with a 9-4 record.
