Former Nebraska defensive coordinator Carl Pelini is reportedly headed to Bowling Green for the 2018 season. Carl is the brother of former Huskers head coach Bo Pelini.

Monday evening, multiple reports surfaced saying that Pelini was offered the defensive coordinator position at Bowling Green and that he was very interested in the offer. John Wagner of the Toledo Blade tweeted that the offer was accepted.

Pelini was the defensive coordinator at Nebraska from 2008 through 2011. He was named the head coach at Florida Atlantic in 2012 but only coached the Owls for a season-and-a-half. He resigned after being confronted by Florida Atlantic University’s president about potential illegal drug use.

Pelini coached just 20 games, posting a 5-15 record.

In 2015, he joined his brother’s staff at Youngstown State, becoming the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.

Bowling Green fired defensive coordinator Perry Eliano after the Falcons had one of the worst defensive seasons in the country statistically. Bowling Green surrendered 506 yards and 38 points per game.

The Falcons finished the year 5-7.
