The Heisman Trophy gets awarded to the best players in college football each season.

Right?

Well, sort of. Of course the way the voting happens and how it’s tallied isn’t 100 percent perfect. What is?

Regardless, any player that wins the Heisman Trophy is deserving of it. It’s impossible for a player that doesn’t deserve it to ever win it.

However, there are still phenomenal players that never do win a Heisman Trophy. On Thursday, some of ESPN’s college football experts threw out some names of the best players to never win the coveted trophy:

Deshaun Watson and Christian McCaffrey got multiple votes. However, a couple Big Ten names got votes as well.

Ndamukong Suh wrecked opposing offensive lines. Actually, he wrecked opposing offenses during his time at Nebraska (2005-09). Suh got a vote from Desmond Howard, while Kirk Herbstreit stayed near and dear to his heart with Ohio State.

Herbstreit voted for Keith Byars, a RB who played at Ohio State from 1982-85. In his sophomore and juniors seasons combined, Byars ran for 2,963 yards and 42 TD. And even back then, when pass-catching backs weren’t necessarily at a premium, Byars caught 65 passes for 838 yards and 3 TD during those two seasons.
