Former Northwestern, Illinois offensive coordinator named QB coach at SEC power

Florida coach Dan Mullen named Garrick McGee the Gators next QB coach on Friday afternoon.
McGee is a veteran of college football coaching. He’s spent most of the last 25 years on a college sideline, save for two years with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“Garrick brings a wealth of knowledge to our offensive room,” Mullen said in a statement. “His track record for developing quarterbacks and explosive offenses will fit nicely with what we do.”
That career includes a four-year stop at Northwestern, where he served as the Wildcats’ WR coach (2004-05) and the offensive coordinator and QB coach (2006-07).
He presided over three six-win Northwestern teams, which was a very good outcome for the Wildcats during that era. He was Pat Fitzgerald’s first offensive coordinator at Northwestern, and left to take the QB coach job at Arkansas. He later served as UAB’s head coach from 2012-13.
McGee also spent two years with Illinois. He was the Illini’s offensive coordinator and QB coach from 2016-17 in Lovie Smith’s first two seasons on the job.
Most recently, McGee was an analyst on Florida’s coaching staff.
