Trevor Siemian is no longer expected to start for the Chicago Bears on Sunday after hurting his oblique during warmups. He will now serve as the backup for Nathan Peterman.

Siemian has had just one appearance this season, throwing one pass in the Bears’ Oct. 30 game against the Dallas Cowboys. The veteran quarterback has been in the league since 2015, but only saw significant playing time in the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

Siemian was a standout at Northwestern from 2011 to 2014, racking up nearly 6,000 passing yards and picking up 27 touchdowns.

Chicago’s starting quarterback, Justin Fields, suffered a shoulder injury last week and was ruled out on Sunday.

Peterman, who played at Tennessee and then Pittsburgh in college, comes into the game not having completed a pass since 2020. Peterman has thrown 12 interceptions and just 7 touchdowns on his career.

Chicago takes on the New York Jets Sunday, looking to right its season after a 3-8 start to the season.
