The New Orleans Saints might be going through a significant change at quarterback this year, but Ian Book wants to do as much as he can to try and perform like one of the all-time greats.

Book, a fourth-round pick out of Notre Dame, recently spoke on the Saints’ YouTube channel about his game and who he tries to replicate on the field. Drew Brees was the quarterback he mentioned.

“Honestly, Drew Brees has just been someone that I’ve looked up to for a super long time and he’s someone I try to emulate my game for a little bit,” Book said. “And there’s a few other QBs I really like, but he’s been somebody that he’s definitely been my top three (favorite quarterbacks), since I was a young kid.”

Brees opted for retirement following the 2020 season, marking the end of a legendary career in New Orleans. During his time with the Saints, Brees was a 13-time Pro Bowl quarterback, a 7-time passing yards leader, a 4-time passing touchdowns leader, a 2-time NFL Offensive Player of the Year and a Super Bowl champion and Super Bowl MVP.

Brees ended his career with 80,358 passing yards and 571 touchdown throws with a career passer rating of 98.7.

Book helped lead Notre Dame to the College Football Playoff during the 2020 season, throwing for 2,830 yards and 15 touchdowns with only 3 interceptions. He also rushed for 485 yards and 9 touchdowns.

In his four seasons at Notre Dame, Book totaled 8,948 yards and 72 touchdown passes with just 20 interceptions. He rushed for 1,517 more yards and 17 additional touchdowns.
