There were some changes expected to be made to the Cincinnati coaching staff now that Scott Satterfield is the head coach. Luckily for one assistant that isn’t going to be the case.

Kerry Coombs has some history with the NFL as well as multiple jobs in the college football world. Coombs was in Columbus from 2020-2021 as Ohio State’s DC.

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg reported that Coombs will serve as the team’s interim HC for the bowl game and will be staying in his role as secondary coach and special teams coordinator on a three-year deal.

The Bearcats will be playing Louisville in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl since Satterfield can’t coach the team yet. Cincinnati ended the regular season with a 9-3 record after missing out on the American Athletic title game.

Cincinnati led the AAC in yards passing allowed per game with 186.4 this season partly because of Coombs. The Bearcats and Cardinals face off Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. ET on ESPN.
