Former Ohio State DB great retiring from NFL after 13 seasons

Former Ohio State defensive back and 13-year NFL veteran Malcolm Jenkins is calling it a career. He made the announcement on social media on Wednesday morning.

“Grateful. After 13 seasons, my time on the football field has come to an end,” Jenkins wrote on Twitter. “I’m just a boy from Piscataway, who through this game, became a champion in the sport and a champion for the people. My time on the field may be over, but I’ll never stop fighting for the people.”

Jenkins spent his entire career playing for two organizations. He was with the New Orleans Saints at the beginning and end of his career (2009-13, 2020-21). He spent 2014-19 with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Jenkins was a member of two Super Bowl winning teams, earning rings with the Saints (Super Bowl XLIV) and the Eagles (Super Bowl LII). He ends his NFL career with 1,044 tackles, 21 interceptions, 20 forced fumbles, 11 fumble recoveries and 8 defensive touchdowns.

While at Ohio State, Jenkins was a three-time First-Team All-B1G selection and was a Second-Team All-American in 2007. In 2008, the defensive back was a consensus All-American selection. That year, Jenkins was also presented with the Jim Thorpe Award, presented to college football’s top DB.

Jenkins was selected in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints with the No. 14 overall pick.
