A former Ohio State basketball assistant is making a return to Ohio.
On Sunday, Ohio announced that it has named Jeff Boals as the new head coach of the program. He will take over the Bobcats after spending the last three seasons at Stony Brook. This past year, he guided the Seawolves to a 24-8 record.
Boals is a graduate of Ohio and was a member of the basketball team from 1991-95.
“We are thrilled to announce that former team captain Jeff Boals will be the 19th head coach in the history of our program,” Ohio tweeted out on Sunday.

In three seasons at Stony Brook, Boals was 55-41 and lead the team to a CBI appearance in his first season. The Seawolves had two winning seasons in three years under Boals.
Prior to taking over as head coach, Boals was an assistant coach at Ohio State from 2009-16 under Thad Matta. Boals also had stops at Akron, Robert Morris, Charleston (West Virginia), Marshall and Ohio.
