Former Ohio State star Jonathon Cooper had an excellent preseason debut with the Denver Broncos on Saturday.

He recorded two tackles, including one for loss, and narrowly missed a pair of sacks in Denver’s 33-6 win over Minnesota.

Cooper is fighting for a roster spot after being picked by the Broncos in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Shortly after the draft, Cooper underwent multiple heart procedures but has been with the team through the entirety of training camp.

It’s currently unclear if he’ll make the team, but early indications are good. He was on the two-deep depth chart that Denver released earlier this week.

Here’s some of the reaction from media members to Cooper’s day against the Vikings:

Last season with the Buckeyes, Cooper produced 24 total tackles and 3.5 sacks in eight games.

Cooper’s next preseason game is on Aug. 21. If he does make the team, he’ll likely make his NFL debut against the New York Giants on Sept. 12.
