Former Ohio State star retires after 14-year NFL career

After spending 14 years in the NFL, Ted Ginn Jr. is calling it a career.

Ginn announced his retirement on Friday, two months before the start of the NFL regular season. He was the No. 9 overall selection in the 2007 NFL Draft, picked by the Miami Dolphins. He also spent time with the San Francisco 49ers, Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears.

Ginn made an immediate impact in the NFL with the Dolphins and was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2007. He finished his first year with the Dolphins with 420 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns on 34 receptions but piled up 1,433 kickoff return yards and 230 punt return yards and scoring 1 special teams touchdown.

In his 14 seasons in the league, Ginn totaled 412 receptions for 5,742 yards and 33 receiving touchdowns and was also responsible for 486 yards on the ground and 2 additional touchdowns. Ginn also totaled 9,523 return yards and reached the end zone 7 times.

At Ohio State, Ginn had a remarkable 3-year career. He totaled 1,102 kickoff return yards and 900 punt return yards and scored 8 touchdowns on special teams, an incredible feat. He also had 1,943 receiving yards, caught 15 touchdown passes and rushed for 213 more yards and crossed the goal line 3 times on the ground.

Ginn is remembered as being one of the most explosive Buckeyes to wear the uniform.
