End the game when you have the chance!

For many years to come, Saturday’s Penn State loss to Indiana will go down as an example to coaches to warn their players they can’t run up the score in the final minutes.

Take a knee, and take the win.

When Devyn Ford burst through the line of scrimmage with 1:46 left in the game, up 21-20, he didn’t realize the Hoosier defense was going to let him go. Instead of dropping, and causing the inevitable running out of the clock with the lead, he put Penn State up 28-20 after the PAT and gave Indiana the ball with almost two minutes left.

Former Nittany Lion linebacker Micah Parsons felt the pain.

But without the miscue, we would be without the picture of Indiana quarterback Michael Penix reaching for the game-winning two-point conversion in the first overtime. The play was close, and will be argued both ways for years to come.

This loss, and the way they lost, will haunt Penn State for some time, and with so much focus on State College next week with Ohio State coming to Happy Valley, even ESPN’s College Game Day is planned to be in town.

Be ready to hear more about it next weekend.
