As we inch closer to roster cutdowns in the NFL, certain players are making the most of their chances to show their respective team they are worthy of getting a roster spot. One of those appears to be former Purdue quarterback and current Lion David Blough.
On Saturday, Blough got much of the late-game action for Detroit in its game against Pittsburgh. Blough impressed with his play and even have some in the Motor City wondering if Blough has a shot as the team’s backup QB behind Jared Goff.
Blough entered the game with his team trailing by more than three touchdowns and led quite the comeback. He finished the day 12-for-17 passing with 143 yards and a touchdown. He also ran twice for 26 yards.

Heading into this season, Tim Boyle was perceived to be the backup for the Lions. The team lured him away from Green Bay with a one-year deal. Blough was a holdover from the previous Detroit administration.
But with two solid performances, Blough has some questioning who will be QB2 on the depth chart.
Here’s what Lions coach Dan Campbell had to say after Saturday’s game.
“I would say this, I like both of our quarterbacks,” Campbell said after the game. “I think, ultimately, you’re looking for: Can I trust the guy that’s behind Goff? Do I know this guy’s going take care of the ball? I know he’ll be efficient, he can efficiently move our offense, he’ll give us a chance to win games.
“More than anything, it’s about trust,” Campbell said. “I would say, really, just because we’ve been with these guys so long in camp, I really do trust both of them. I like them. I think they’re both very different in the way that they go about how they do things and the way they play.”
